AJ worked at Station 68 for many years as a paramedic assigned to Medic 68. He also worked several years in Houstons 5th Ward. AJ held the record for the number of deliveries of new born babies. Birth certificates signed by AJ number in the hundreds. A running joke between paramedics and hospital staff in the Medical Center was that AJ had delivered more new born babies than most OB GYN doctors.

AJ responded to some of Houston's most notable fires. One of the fires he worked was the Redwood Chemical fire on the South side of Houston. AJ was transported to Hermann Hospital "CODE 3" from that fire. Firefighters working the fire stated the he was very near death. Redwood Chemical had been blamed for numerous cancer related illnesses and deaths of Houston Firefighters.

AJ graced the pages of one of the very popular issues of the Houston Firefighters annual calendar's along with his brothers, Robert and Raymond.
